What is a Spot Robot Welding Cell ?

A Spot Robot Welding cell is an integrated automated production unit composed of a multi-axis industrial robot as the moving platform, equipped with servo spot welding gun, combined with medium-frequency spot welding controllers, electrode trimming device(Tip Dresser) , special Welding Fixtures, safety protection, cooling, and electrical control equipment.

What are components of Spot Robot Welding Cell ?

Welding Robot : Main element of the welding cell, normally it’s a vertical series structure to responsible for manipulating the welding gun to execute spatial orientation and directional movement, included

a. Controller : it’s the “central nervous” of robot, serve crucial functions as interaction, perception, control and decision-making

b. Teach Pendant : it’s primary interface for human-machine interaction, used for manual operation of robots, programming, jogging, touch screen, system diagnosis and status confirmation, etc.

Welding Controller : Responsible for controlling the entire welding process, including setting welding parameters, monitoring the welding process and conducting fault diagnosis, etc.

Welding Gun : The core execution component of automated welding system,it integrates the welding current transmission passage, wire feeding pipeline,shielding gas delivery channel , and cooling medium circulation pipeline

Tip Dresser : Tip Dresser used for grinding and shaping the spot welding electrode cap.  it simultaneously dresses upper and lower electrode tips to restore flat, parallel welding contact surfaces.

It eliminate uneven melting, welding spatter and unqualified nuggets caused by oxidized, deformed electrode tips during mass production.

Welding Fixture : Welding fixtures are the key tools in the welding process that ensure the precise and stable position of the part.

Their design is closely integrated with the welding process requirements, providing a firm support and positioning for the part, thereby ensuring the accuracy and quality of the welding joint.

PLC Controller :  It’s the overall central control system of the entire Robot Welding Cell, coordinating the automatic and orderly movement of all equipment, while also taking into account process control, safety protection, fault monitoring, and data interaction.

HMI Touch Screen: The HMI touch screen serves as the main operation display screen for the entire welding workstation. Workers do not need to operate complex PLC programs. They can simply use the touch screen to start or stop the equipment, adjust the welding process, view production output, handle faults, and control all the automatic equipment within the Robot Welding Cell.

Water path system: Maintain the welding gun/spot welding electrode and the heating welding components continuously. Ensure the stable temperature of the equipment, guarantee the welding quality, and at the same time, achieve overheat protection for the equipment through water pressure temperature detection.

Air path system: Provide compressed air to drive the welding gun, Welding fixtures, Tip Dresser and other pneumatic components. Continuously monitor the air pressure and automatically shut down the machine with an audible alarm in case of air leakage or low pressure.

Fencing: The safety fence is a Robot Welding Cell security protection device that isolates the human-machine interface, prevents injuries to worker, has a door lock interlock shutdown function, and also blocks the flying welding slag and isolates debris.
